KO SAMET RESORTS Local Customs
To truly appreciate Thailand and get along with it's fantastic people, please keep a few pointers in mind with regards to local customs and to avoid offending your hosts.
1. The Thai people are very respectful of their royal family and you should never refer to the King or them in a negative fashion.
2. Apart from certain areas, Thai women in general are much more conservative than their Western counterparts. Do not touch them or disrespect them.
3. The head is considered the most important part of the body, where the spirit resides. Never touch a Thai persons head, especially the older generation. And never step over someones head or point your feet (which is the lowest part of the body) at someone.
4. Always take your shoes off before entering a Thai home, Temple or even many businesses (generally the latter will have sign stating this).
5. Nudism or even topless bathing is frowned upon by most Thais. So is venturing out in public (i.e. off th e beach) in bikinis or nothing but bathing gear. Cover yourself up when leaving the beach.
